On October 16, 1997, the city of Hawarden, Iowa celebrated its "Connection to the World Day" as they introduced HITEC (Hawarden Integrated Technology, Energy and Communications), the city's municipal communication utility.

Supported by a state-of-the-art hybrid fiber coaxial or HFC network, Hawarden offers Internet access, cable television and competitive telephone services ot the city's homes and businesses.

Hawarden's foresight, and dedication have paved the way for every town and rural community to reap the benefits of a competitive communication marketplace: quality service, local control, new technology and customer choice, plus a new source of income generated for further community development.

HITEC Begins Cable Television Service

Sixty technicians from neighboring municipalities and rural electric cooperatives lent a hand to Hawarden to, in a single day, turn up service to all of the city's homes subscribing to the new cable service
